Downtown Artwalk at The Annex LA!

Hiii there!

It's been such an eventful week since I last wrote an entry! Although most of the time I spent it sick, which is never fun, we continued working hard creating new accessories in preparation for our next event, the Downtown Artwalk on Thursday, July 8th at the Annex LA
It is our third month in a row at this event (our second with the annex LA- lobby pic on the left) and we really enjoy it! Every month there are new, fun and creative artists that bring out thousands of people to the streets. You can buy amazing works of art and items like new/vintage clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc at amazing prices, and at the same time you will find new musical talents, foods, designers that you won't come across regularly. Whatever it is that interests you, there is bound to be something for you!

We at Herrdoghouse & Dodies Corner have new pieces that we are hoping you guys love! Because this is a special monthly event, we will have the items at low and awesome prices for you!

Check out some of the newbies to the collections:

NEW EVENT! ~ Fathers Day Ideas (ARKA) ~ Kitschy Katz & the World Cup IS HEEEERE!

I had not realized I haven't updated this in a week! I need to get better with this and am going to make it a point to at least update every other day with new hot items I come across and update on current projects.

NEW EVENT! GRAND OPENING OF TIZIANAS SHOP IN LOS FELIZ!

So.. to start off... I invite you, your moms, your family, your friends to come check out the debut of Herrdoghouse's most recent creations for Tiziana's Shop Grand Opening in the Los Feliz area Saturday night at 7pm and on! The event is a celebration of the wonderful Tiziana coming back to the hot LA scene with AMAZING fashion! If you happen to be in the area, the link to the event is on the left of the page! Take some time to come through, say hi and have a good time! The newest line (sneak peak on facebook) of jewelry will be on sale at this awesome event!

Fathers Day is around the corner, have you bought a gift yet?!

Now, if you happen to be on the look out for a cool gift for an amazing father out there (or you just want to buy yourself some new threads) I HIGHLY recommend you check out ARKA clothing! When I first met the guys behind ARKA, they told me that the line stands for "King of Kings" and now with Fathers day literally around the corner, I think that its fitting to share with you guys. I met Burag and Shant, the founders of the high end mens shirts a couple months ago and fell in love with them AND their stuff!! These guys are both completely down to earth guys and fun to talk to, which in my eyes goes a long way in this whole industry. I completely support them and their fashion. They have been doing events all around Southern California and are continuing to work hard with many more events coming soon. Check out ARKA and buy that special dad a cool t-shirt for fathers day! You don't have to order them online, just check out all the retailers that carry them here or you can follow them on facebook here and go buy it in person! You can find their stuff in almost every major city. The quality of their stuff is awesome and worth checking out!
Much much love and success to all of you at ARKA!

(picture was taken off of their facebook website where you can see more pictures of all of their designs..seriously- go check it out!)

heeeeeere kitty kitty...

Ok now moving on to my next big thing I am excited to share with you is these beautiful little masterpieces ~ Kitschy Katz!

Kitschy Katz is the next big thing to be coming out as a collectible figurine! Currently there are 9 "katz" in the collection (picture above) and they make wonderful gifts. Each figurine comes with its own collectible card and has a little profile, including birthday and weight (cute!). On the card you will read a quote that each one comes with and they are just clever and unique! I met Ken Wong, the creator and designer of these contemporary masterpieces and he is the sweetest person! I have come across his stuff at the art walks in downtown and each time fall in love with them more and more.

At his events, Ken takes a photo album that he shares with everyone. Inside the photo album are pictures from everywhere these little "katz" have traveled, submitted by fans. They have taken pictures in London, all across the U.S., sports events, and they've even made it to Dodger games (Go Blue!)! I'm hoping that there will be one that goes to the World Cup, otherwise I am just going to have to find a way to snap that picture myself!    Anyway, before I lose track here, I find that this collection would make a beautiful display in any and every home! The lines and curves of these pieces are SO clean and smooth, I really have never seen any other cat figurine I have loved as much as I do love these "katz". In fact, I have NEVER seen a cat figurine I like... so Ken Wong- thank you for your artwork! :)
Take a moment and check out the main website and maybe you will be tempted to start your own little Kitschy Katz family! If you're interested in checking out Kitschy Katz in person, take a moment to become a fan via facebook here, and be on the look out for his announcements regarding events!

etsy- check. events- couple checks. blog- here we go!

So I guess I start by saying hi?-
so.....
 "hello"

A little background to "Herrdoghouse"
13-ish years ago, my mom took my younger brother and I to New York to visit my aunt and uncle, both very very creative and amazing hard working people. At that time, they both were designers and had phenomenal pieces ranging from hair accessories, to dresses, to scarves and even jewelry. During that trip, my uncle sat down with me and we worked on a little "project" he gave me. He taught me how to work with beads and I was immediately on my way to creating my first work of art- a swarovski crystal and silver beaded lariat necklace. I remember my uncle telling me that I was making the piece for a collection he was going to be selling but when I was finally done with the necklace, he surprised me and let me keep it. To this moment, I still have that necklace and I still use it for all my special events. Now, 13 years later I am sharing the detailed bead work designs with the world.

Growing up, my parents always encouraged me to be creative, but it wasn't really until my uncle sat me down to teach me how to make something out of a mess of beads and beautiful crystals that I realized, I had some kind of gift. So a huge thank you to my amazing aunt and uncle (my New York mom and dad) for ALL of the support and encouragement you've given me.

Why "Herrdoghouse" and who made that AWESOME logo?
The easiest way I can explain is to break it down:
Herr - Yes, I know how to spell correctly, but I added the extra "r" for my last name; Herrera.
Dog House- First off, one of a few reasons the  business started is because I wanted to have an income to feed my "kids" (my dogs) and pay for the meds that my chocolate lab needs daily. Secondly, I (and the family) are major dog lovers. At the moment we have 5 dogs; 3 chihuahuas and 2 labradors.

As for the logo, it is an uber amazing piece of art made by Darcy R. If you have a chance, you need to check out the phenomenal work this young beauty creates at PasmalDarcy. I also have some shots of her remarkable pieces from the Rose City Rocks festival in Pasadena in this album.

So why did I start the business 13 years later?
I worked in corporate america for the past 10ish years and its been a ride with too many "downs" that have burdened all of the "ups". I found myself missing my dogs while I was at work being fed TO the dogs and truly not enjoying the political b.s. that was going on everywhere. After 4 years of working hard I found myself being told I was getting laid off so I decided it is time to be my own boss and take control of my schedule, my life and truly enjoy what I do, not what others tell me to do. I have two kids I can now enjoy daily; my two 2 year old labrador retreivers, Bosco & Mia.
One afternoon, after spending the day on careerbuilder and job searches, I was browsing online trying to find a fun and unique collar for Mia, not having ANY luck. I remembered I had a vintage black Brighton co. leather belt in my room and decided I would try to make that into a collar. I started working on it and adding beautiful swarovski crystals to it, finally turning this old belt that didn't fit me (not even if my life depended on it) into her beautiful new collar (the purple one in the picture below).
(you can check out more pictures of the others at the online shop or on my facebook page)
After a couple of days of creating different collars of different vintage leather belts for Mia, mom asked me to make her an eyeglass necklace and pretty soon, one thing led to another and women's jewelry got thrown into the mix. The point? Herrdoghouse was created!

So what's the point of the entire blog?
Aside from sharing my custom work and to share the ride of a new growing company with you...
I want to share the beautiful work of other amazing up and coming artists, designers, boutiques and business owners that work hard to make it out there. You never know what someone else is going to consider something to be  a "masterpiece", therefore, I just want to share everything I can with the world. I hope you will join me in my new adventure and keep up with my new projects as well as the new artists that I meet. Hopefully I can get to meet everyone one day and in advance thank you for all the support.

Have a great night!
Ninfa

p.s. A very very special thank you to my Tio Hugo for all of the support you have really given me. I love you Tio and appreciate everything deeply.
